FROM THE ALPS TO THE
WORLD

Botto Wool is a family owned textile group with a very long history and tradition: since the end of the 19th century we have been building solid foundations during the enormous challenges that have beset the wool textile world. Many years later and our roots are still here, in this territory where it all began, and where, despite the crisis and the changes, the local industry is still immersed in wool and in wool textile excellence. We started here and it is here where we developed our trading arm and our wool sourcing facilities worldwide to enable us to follow the new european textile markets and to be able to place ourselves as a formidable partner as suppliers of the wool textile world. presently, we mainly source our wools in Europe and our goal is to supply the best possible quality not only to our many valued european clients but also to some of the main international markets such as Russia, Turkey and China.

BIELLA, A FASCINATING TERRITORY

Driving up towards Biella, from the spring until autumn, you may have to stop to give way to a flock of sheep or a herd of cows moving from their stalls and barnes to the green pastures characterise the landscape, the plains, the hills and mountains. Biella is a large town located in the north of Italy, at the foot of the alps but less than 100km from the larger cities such as Turin and Milan, whilst less than 200km from Genoa. In this fascinating rural landscape of woods, mountains and pastures, there are still the most well known textile brands in the world, which continue to be part of our culture and traditions.

WATER FROM
THE ALPS

What is the reason of the success of this wool textile cluster? It is most definitely the water: our mountain streams bring the purest natural water from the Alps, before flowing down the valleys and plains before joining the main rivers. But the excellent quality of our water was not only particularly indicated for the scouring of the wool and for the finishing of the cloth, it was also essential to supply water powered energy to the mills. Many of them are still located alongside the streams and rivers although they no longer need water to run the machinary.

THE LOCAL
TRADITION

The Industrial Revolution boomed in the United Kingdom during the 19th century. In this period, many inspired local families, understanding the potential of our water supply, were inspired to invest in textile machinary. They created a unique network of textile mills operating from the very first steps of the textile chain (the wool scouring and wool combing) right up to the finishing of the cloth. Over the years our local textile industry has developed skills and capacities unique in the world, and still today, all the top quality fashion companies source their cloth here.
